Registration
Teams register for the Firmaliiga, most commonly for the full season, meaning all six events across both the spring and autumn seasons. A team may also choose to register for only half a season, either the spring or autumn events.
Registration is completed according to the instructions on the registration page. The participation fee is paid at the time of registration. Before the season starts, teams are divided into divisions based on previous performance. The division allocation will be published on the Firmaliiga website.
As team lineups may vary between events, the team participants must be submitted to the organisers before each event. The lineup is submitted using a designated form according to the registration instructions.
Preparing for each event
Before every event:
- Make sure the team contact person has submitted the team lineup no later than 20:00 on the day before the competition.
- Check your team’s details and division from the participant list on the event page. The team contact person may update the information if necessary.
- Read the event specific competition instructions.
- Review the instructions and course setter’s tips before the race. Prepare for possible walking distances and preferably use carpooling.
Arrival and start
In Firmaliiga events, you may choose your own start time between 17:00 and 19:00. Arrive i n good time to comfortably make both your start and your finish before the course closes at 20:00. Before starting, all participants must register themselves at the event. Registration opens at 16:30 at the event venue.
When arriving at the venue:
Register for the event
- If the team lineup and Emit card numbers have been submitted in advance, you may go to the self service registration terminal and then directly to the start corresponding to your division (see instructions below).
- If there are unreported changes to the team lineup or an Emit card number must be updated, go to the service desk to register.
- If you do not have your own Emit card, request a rental card from the service desk.
There are two start locations:
- Start 1, for the shorter courses D, E, and F, is usually closer to the event centre.
- Start 2, for the longer courses A, B, and C, is farther away.
Check the event specific instructions for the exact start locations and proceed to your start.
At the start area:
- Attach the backup control slip to your Emit card. This allows checkpoint punches to be verified afterwards if there are any issues with the electronic punching system.
- Move to the start queue corresponding to your division.
Starts are given on exact minute intervals according to the clock signal. During busy periods, 30 second start intervals may be used.
- At the first beep, place your Emit card into the clear/check station and keep it there.
- At the fifth beep (a longer signal), remove your card, take a map from the bucket corresponding to your course, and head toward the K point.
The timing has started for you. Good luck!
During the course
Firmaliiga offers competition level orienteering experiences in some of the best terrains in the Helsinki metropolitan area. There may be several hundred participants in the forest within a relatively narrow time window.
- Focus on your own performance and allow other competitors to concentrate.
- At each control, check the control number code carefully and make sure you visited the correct control for your course. Your team will appreciate getting an accepted result. Controls from different courses are located close to each other in all events.
Finish and results
Your orienteering performance and timing end at the finish punch. After finishing, your performance data must still be registered in the results system.
- At the finish line, make your finish punch.
- After punching, proceed to the finish official at the results service point, where your Emit card data will be downloaded into the results software.
- If there are any uncertainties with the registered controls, they will be clarified together with the finish official.
- Return any rented Emit card to the finish official.
The finish closes at 20:00. At the same time, the collection of control flags and Emit units starts.
Individual results are visible on the Firmaliiga results page immediately after the Emit card has been downloaded. Team results and team points will appear on the results page after the finish has closed.
